ALGEBRA

What is algebra ?
Algebra is the world of the unknown ie, it deals with variables whose value are unknown.

In the following expression

2+x =5

x is a variable and we call the above as algebric expression.

Much of algebra deals with making the unknown known ie, solving equations so that variables can be replaced constant numbers.

So we need to know some of the terms that are basic for algebra

Constant :A numerical quantity that does not change.
Variable: An unknown quantity can be represented by any alphabet in English ,x or y are common .
Coefficient: A coefficient is a number that appears next to a variable
Term: The product of a constant and a variable. Every algebraic term is the product of a constant and a variable raised to some power.
Expression: A combination of terms. Expressions don’t include an equal sign that differentiates expressions from equations. Expressions can’t be solved unless we know all the variables values but they can be simplified.
Equation. Two expressions linked by an equal sign.
