GMAT question of the day

The length and breadth of a square are increased by 30% and 20%
respectively. The area of the rectangle so formed is more than the area of the
square by:

(a) 50%
(b) 56%
(c) 60%
(d) 10%

We can calculate the percentage increase by L+B+LB concept

Increase percentage = 30 + 20 + (30 x 20)/100

=30+20+(600/100)=56%

Hence the answer is B
