GMAT Question of the Day

Fifty gallons of gas is required to travel 600 miles using a 1000 cc engine. If the volume of gas required to cover a distance varies directly as the capacity of the engine, then how many gallons of gas is required to travel 1000 miles using 1500 cc engine?

1)100
2)200
3)125
4)150

To travel 1000 miles with the same engine it will take (1000/600)*50 gallons.

=1000/12 gallons.

When the engine capacity increases to 1500cc from 1000cc, 1.5 times more gas will be required.

or 1500/12 gallons = 125 gallons
